My man and I have been contemplating a nursery ... how do we decorate? How much is it gonna cost? How long before we have to change it to a big kid's room? etc.... So then the other day, I'm standing in Hattie's room, which is purple and frilly and sweet and girlie. Now, any of you who have spent any length of time with Hattie can testify that THIS is NOT who Hattie is! So I ask myself "self ("cause tht's what I call me!!), how long till Hattie is asking for a new room too?" Then it hits me, why not leave Hattie's current room the way it is and make it the nursery (seeing as how we are now 98.75ish% sure that we will be getting at least one girl) and give Hattie a new and improved - and suiting her personality - BIG GIRL ROOM!!!!!
Now this idea gets me thinking about WHO Hattie really is... she LOVES to be outside, loves water, LOVES to get dirty - especially in sand - and loves ocean animals. So, it occurs that a beachside/ocean/tropical/surfer girl theme would suit her perfectly!! Plus, it would be something special, just for her and made to celebrate the big girl - little person that she is becoming.
So now we need suggestions... we kinda have a few ideas and are really excited. My Mommy is coming soon for my birthday and that will be our project for the week. We want to get it ready and have Hattie settled in before the baby (or babies) come. So if you have any... bring 'em on! We are open to any and all ideas and would love as many of our fRamily involved in this as possible. Something special for our new big sister!!!!

2 of ya left some love:
give me some time, I'll try and think of some cute ideas-
How exciting. Well, here's what I am thinking. I love your idea of Hattie getting a "big girl room." With a new child coming into the home, and all the fuss that is involved, I think it's great that Hattie gets a special moment of fuss as well. Why not go through some magazines and pick out a few ideas that would suit you and present the different ideas to Hattie to pick out herself.
Not sure how creative you are, but I helped my best friend decorate her son's rooms (totally different boys!), one was motorcycle theme (kid after my own heart), and the other one was a pirate/nautical theme). One thing that came in handy is a projector...just project the image you want on your wall...saves TONS of money and if you can color inside the lines it works great. If you go with the surfer theme, you can use spray sand (you can get at a hobby shop - ie Michaels or Hobby Lobby). If you are concerned about the grit it may leave, just put up some contact paper or wall paper where you would like to spray and peel it off when you are ready to repaint. (Sorry, this is long. I went to school for interior design, so I love thinking up inexpensive ideas.)
